VA nurse saved a man's life at a softball game using an AED and CPR just days after completing training

Kelly Llewellyn, a nurse at the Tampa VA, was attending a softball game in The Villages, Florida, on October 6, 2025, when a man in the scoring booth became unresponsive and turned blue. She immediately retrieved and activated an AED, applied the pads, and delivered shocks while her husband performed CPR. The man survived. Kelly later reflected: "I had just completed my quarterly training on Thursday and on Monday I'm doing it on a real person." For her actions, she received the American Heart Association's Heartsaver Hero Award, a Certificate of Extraordinary Personal Action from the American Red Cross, and a Community Service Award from the Wildwood Police Department.
