What you agree to when you nominate, boost, or browse — written to be read, not skimmed past.

Map of Heroes is a public map of everyday heroes. By using the site — browsing, nominating a hero, boosting one, or leaving kind words in a guestbook — you agree to these terms and to our community guidelines.
Nominating a hero costs a one-time $5 fee ($20 for the featured tier). The fee covers human review and keeps the map free of spam. Payment is collected before review, so every nomination is covered by the refund promise below.
When you submit a nomination you confirm the story is true to the best of your knowledge, that you have the right to share any photo you upload, and that the submission follows our guidelines.
A real person reviews every nomination — usually within 2 business days. We may edit for clarity, formatting, or safety (for example, removing a street-level address), and we may decline, hide, or remove any content that doesn’t meet our guidelines, at our discretion, at any time.
If we can’t approve your nomination, we’ll refund your payment in full.
Featured placement gives a hero 30 days of extra visibility — a spotlight on the homepage and a highlighted pin on the map. You can buy it as the featured nomination tier, as an upgrade after nominating, or as a $15 boost of any approved hero (boosting is open to everyone, not just the nominator).
You keep ownership of the stories, photos, and messages you submit. So that the site can work, you grant Map of Heroes a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, reproduce, adapt (for example, excerpting a story for a share preview), and distribute that content in connection with operating and promoting the map. Honorees and their families can always ask us to change or remove a page — see the contact page.
Don’t submit content that breaks our guidelines, impersonate others, scrape private data, interfere with the service, or use the map to harass anyone. We may suspend access for abuse.
Stories are submitted by nominators (or drawn from public reporting for editorial heroes) and are presented in good faith; we review for safety and tone but can’t independently verify every detail. The service is provided “as is” without warranties, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the past 12 months.
