Temecula lifeguard stopped at a gas station and performed CPR on a stranger, saving his life
In July 2024, Thomas Mann — a certified Red Cross Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor, and Lifeguard Instructor for the City of Temecula — was on his way to work when he pulled into a gas station and found an unconscious man on the ground, bleeding from the head and not breathing. Without hesitation, he retrieved his emergency supplies from his vehicle and began performing CPR, staying at the man's side until EMS arrived. His quick action using his Red Cross training helped save the man's life. In March 2025, the American Red Cross honored Mann with the Good Samaritan Hero Award at the Inland Empire Heroes Awards ceremony in Ontario, California.
