Manchester neighbor leaped a fence and fought off attacking dogs to save an 8-year-old boy
On April 30, 2025, Matthew Buchan of Manchester, New Hampshire heard a woman cry out that a dog had a child and immediately ran outside. He leaped over a fence and threw himself between two dogs and 8-year-old Camden Mathieu, sustaining serious injuries to his hand in the process. His stepdad, Eric Harnum, followed and struck the pit bull with a shovel until the dogs released the boy. Camden survived. Buchan and Harnum were honored as New Hampshire Heroes at a ceremony held at the Rex Theatre in Manchester — Harnum posthumously, as he passed away in June 2025.
