Plainfield fourth-grade teacher named 2026 Indiana Teacher of the Year
Megan Johnson, a fourth-grade teacher at Central Elementary School in Plainfield, Indiana, was named the 2026 Indiana Teacher of the Year by the Indiana Department of Education in October 2025. With nearly two decades in upper elementary classrooms, she became an early champion of science-of-reading instruction, completing extensive research and training colleagues in evidence-based literacy methods. She also led her students through a playground redesign project focused on accessibility, blending literacy, math, science, and civic engagement. State Secretary of Education Katie Jenner praised her as "a dedicated literacy champion" who pours into every student she teaches.
