Texarkana couple has run a church food pantry for over 20 years, feeding thousands each month
Mark and Nadara Sperry have led the Westside Church of Christ food pantry in Texarkana, Texas since it opened in 1999. Over more than two decades, they have built a team of 50 volunteers drawn from multiple local congregations and now distribute an average of 3,500 pounds of food each month to families in need in this border community. In September 2025, the East Texas Food Bank recognized their decades of service with a Hunger Hero Lifetime Achievement Award during Hunger Action Month. Nadara described their motivation simply: 'We firmly believed that Jesus wanted us to share what He had given us.'
