Mr. Walter Okafor

When the corner lot in his Atlanta neighborhood sat trash-strewn for years, Mr. Okafor did not file a complaint. He brought a shovel. Then he brought tomatoes, then trellises, then a hand-painted sign that read "Take what you need." Within two seasons the garden fed dozens of families, taught the block's children where food comes from, and gave the elders a shaded bench to gather. Walter never asked for credit.
