Coach Maria Sandoval

Coach Sandoval believed every kid in her Denver community deserved a team, regardless of what their family could pay. So she built one. For fifteen years she scrounged donated cleats, talked local shops into sponsoring uniforms, and coached three age groups herself on weekends. Her real lessons were never about the score. She taught hundreds of kids to show up, to pick each other up, and to look out for the smallest player on the field. Many of her former players now coach the next generation, carrying forward a quiet revolution she started with a whistle and a borrowed field.
